Welcome Adam Anderson, Pastor of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church

Our presbytery welcomes the Rev. Adam Anderson as Pastor of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church!  Adam, his wife Lindsey, and their two young children Abe and Frankie are settling into the San Marco area of Jacksonville. Adam began as pastor at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church on November 2.

Adam most recently served as a Pastor at Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Delaware, Ohio.  He is transferring from the Scioto Valley Presbytery in Ohio where he was Chairperson and Member for the Commission on Congregational Life.

Adam grew up as a pastor’s grandchild and was exposed to the practical aspects of ministry from a young age.  He initially shied away from the ministry as a career path, seeing firsthand the challenges of balancing family and church life. But the call of ministry did not go away, and Adam managed to work in ministry without going to seminary. Immediately after attending college he worked as campus minister with the Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO), which helped with his transition from the fundamentalist Church of Christ tradition into reformed theology.

With a long-held interest in governance and its role in transforming individuals and communities, Adam continued his study with two graduate degrees in City Planning and Public Administration at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. As he worked for the State of Ohio, he came to realize that “the church carries within itself narratives that can reshape communities.”  With further discernment Adam pursued his MDiv through Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and was ordained in 2018.

It is this intersection between urban planning and ministry that drew Adam to South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, especially as the church is in the process of visioning a renewed commitment to mission in the midst of property sales, renovation, and neighborhood transformation.  He says that he is looking forward to “walking beside SJPC as it redefines itself in ministry.  I’m so grateful for this gift, and am excited to be here in the Presbytery of St. Augustine!”

Adam is married to Lindsey, a Physical Therapist Assistant.  They have two children, Abraham (7) and Faustena “Frankie” (5), and have recently adopted a rescue goldendoodle, Walter.

We welcome Adam and the Anderson family to our presbytery and look forward to the Service of Installation coming soon.
