These greetings are from presbytery member Brice Rogers and his family.  Brice currently lives and studies in South Korea. Dear Friends of St. Augustine Presbytery, Spring and Easter greetings from Seoul, South Korea! The winter here is almost 6 months long, so finally now in April we can truly celebrate the coming of spring. It’s been a long and busy winter for our family, and even with the change of season there is not much of a break in our schedule! Brice enjoyed a rest from his Church History PhD studies at Yonsei University during January and February… Korean universities have a long winter breakRead More →

Greetings to all my presbytery friends, As we approach the end of Lent, as we celebrated the triumphal entry, as we approach the cross and the grave, and the empty tomb, I pray that we will all find the peace of God that Christ exhibited to the world as he approached all of those things. One of my favorite parts of the journey that Christ took in those final days is the story of the widow’s mite. At the very beginning of the passage in Mark it states that “Jesus sat down opposite the Temple.” Jesus had a point to make and even in theRead More →

By: Sandra Hedrick, Stated Clerk Photo: First Presbyterian Church, Green Cove Springs, Florida The program for entering 2013 statistics has closed, and over the next few months I will use them as a springboard to share some interesting facts and figures about our congregations. Starting with the basics, the total number of congregation members in our presbytery at the end of 2013 was 17,074 (it was 17,334 in 2012). Twenty-one of our 63 churches had a net increase in membership. There are three churches in our presbytery with over 1,000 members, eight between 500 and 1,000, 23 between 100 and 500, and 29 with underRead More →

Following is a short article about supply preaching by Rev. Dan Graham, one of our retired members who serves the presbytery in that capacity.  To review the presbytery’s list of supply preachers, click here. Sharing in worship with churches throughout the Presbytery of St. Augustine has been a significant aspect of ministry for me in retirement. I have served as “supply preacher” for many different congregations during the last several years, and I have already received over 20 invitations to preach in 2014. When I was an installed pastor and interim pastor, there were students, candidates, associate pastors, presbytery staff, church officers, prison and hospitalRead More →

“Steve,I just wanted you to know that you are in my prayers during the Lenten season. I pray that you and your churches are experiencing renewing grace during Lent and that your preparation to celebrate God’s undying love in Christ is bringing hope to you and people in your communities. It’s good to be partnering with you in God’s mission.” So read the note of hope and encouragement that I received from Ray Jones in the offices of the General Assembly in Louisville. Ray has covenanted with me to pray for my work and ministry as together we all serve Christ in this portion ofRead More →

By: Cindy Benz, Interim Pastor – First Presbyterian Church, Palatka, FL Steve is one of those rare birds among us – a lifelong Presbyterian. He grew up in southern New Jersey in the northern stream of the denomination, but eventually made his way south. He graduated from Juniata College in Pennsylvania with a BA in History, then moved to Western Michigan University and got an MS in Librarianship. He lived and worked in West Virginia before coming to Palatka, FL, in 1989 to serve as the Director of the Putnam County Library System. As you might guess, Steve likes books. He likes to read, heRead More →

“Life is a gift … so spend time with the Giver.” These were some of the thoughtful words of our newest presbytery member, Dr. Harry Johnson, as he shared his faith journey with the Examinations Commission last week. If you attend the May Stated Presbytery Meeting, you will have an opportunity to meet Harry and his wife Christine, who moved to the Palm Coast area last year. His name will be added to our pulpit supply list (on our website) very soon. Harry comes to us from the Presbytery of Lake Michigan. He is a native Minnesotan and grew up five hours north of Minneapolis/St.Read More →
