Basking in the Light

Matthew 5:14-16

New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. People do not light a lamp and put it under the bushel basket; rather, they put it on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

I love to watch the dawning of a new day. There is something truly spectacular about seeing the sunrise and listening to God’s creation come alive.  When I am able to soak in those moments with Libby (my wife) by my side and a good cup of coffee in my hand, I am inspired and humbled.   Libby and I both really enjoy spending time at the beach, watching the sunrise and looking for dolphins (one of God’s best creations IMHO). Basking in the light, and the beauty of God’s handiwork can be a catalyst for a great day and a reminder that we are stewards of creation and the Good News.

We are people of light. Light is such an important part of who we are, it is in several of our songs, “This Little Light of Mine,” “I Saw the Light,” “Light of the World,” “Shine a Light,” “My Lighthouse” and many more. The songs we sing help us to celebrate the presence of Christ in our lives and remind us that we are called to be vessels of Christ’s light and love.

I have now been sharing ministry with you for a little more than three months. As I continue to make my way around the presbytery visiting churches (17 to date), and getting to know pastors and leaders, I am encouraged by all the ways you are reflecting the light and love of Christ. I am grateful for your service and excited to see where God is calling us to go.

Peace,
David
