PROMOTION 

There are a variety of ways to promote the Two Cents A Meal Offering.  Here we give you a series of suggestions.  Use as many as are appropriate for your situation. 

·         Have an announcement in your bulletin the week before, the week of, and the week after the Sunday designated for your collection.  Announcements can be as simple as “Next week we receive our Two Cents A Meal offering,” or “Today we have the opportunity to share our pennies for Jamaica Mutual Mission,” or “If you missed the opportunity to make your Two Cents A Meal offering last Sunday, you may leave your can in the basket on the table in the narthex.”  See also the information under “Minutes for Mission,” much of it could be turned into a bulletin announcement.

·         Use seasonal inserts that will be made available to you from the Education sub-committee of the presbytery’s Mutual Mission delegation.

·         Ask you pastor to include the Presbytery’s Mutual Mission program in the pastoral prayer.

·         Utilize speakers and slide presentations for your family night suppers.  Your district coordinator will be more than happy to work with you to provide a program.

·         Put Mutual Mission cans with special wrappers out for you church meals.  The church family can lead by example.

·         Promote Mutual Mission by your own participation – your actions will always speak louder than words.

·         Use the following Minutes for Mission:

--TWO CENTS WORTH: “Two cents” is not a grand sum of money.  In fact, the phrase “two cents worth” tends to be used as put-down.  And yet, “two cents” per meal per person is our goal for Jamaican Mutual Mission.  Why?  Because two cents can make a difference.  Let’s say that two thirds of the Presbyterians (that does not include children!) in our presbytery contributed two cents per meal, three meals per day, for one month.  That would amount to over $18,000!  And that is with only two-thirds of our confirmed members participating.  So why not give your two cents worth as we collect our Mutual Mission offering this Sunday.

MUTUAL MISSION AND MONTGOMERY CONFERENCE CENTER: For the most part, we Presbyterians tend to connect Mutual Mission with our work “down there” in Jamaica.  Did you know that a part of Jamaica comes to St. Augustine Presbytery each summer?  Each summer a Jamaican seminary student works as a counselor at Montgomery Conference Center.  This gives our conference center an international perspective that is unique.  It is all a part of our “Hearts and Hands Across the Sea” (the Mutual Mission motto).  Remember our Two Cents A Meal offering this Sunday. 

BE IN CONTACT WITH YOUR DISTRICT COORDINATOR 

Your district coordinator will always be glad to help you in promoting and interpreting Mutual Mission.  He or she will also have details concerning speakers, slide presentations, Awareness Visits to Florida by Jamaicans, Awareness Visits to Jamaica by Floridians, Youth Exchange, and so on.
